Caring for your Earrings

To maintain the quality and longevity of wooden earrings, follow these care guidelines:

Avoid Moisture: Each wooden dangle earring is finished with a waterproof coating so they can take the odd shower or swim. We don’t recommend these activities, but it happens. Moisture causes wood to swell and warp, which can ruin the finish and structure.

Gentle Cleaning: Clean with a dry, soft, microfiber cloth to remove dust or clean the earrings and leave them to dry. Do not use a hair dryer, as high heat can crack the wood. Let them air dry naturally.  Never soak them or use harsh, chemical-based cleaners. The wood earrings are reasonably strong but do take care and be gentle with them.

Avoid Chemicals: Remove earrings before applying hairspray, perfumes, lotions, or sunscreen. These products can cause discoloration, staining, or chemical reactions that damage the wood.  We are very confident that your wood earrings will be ok if they get a bit of hair products on them.

Occasional Conditioning: If the wood looks dry or dull, apply a small amount of natural, food-safe oil (such as jojoba oil or linseed oil) or beeswax to polish and protect it.

Safe Handling: Try not to sleep in your earrings, as they can break or catch on linen. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Safety and Usage

Skin Sensitivity: Wood is generally hypoallergenic and, unlike some metals, does not typically cause allergic reactions (like itching or green skin), making them ideal for sensitive ears.

Piercing Health: Ensure your piercings are fully healed before wearing wooden earrings. Wood is porous and can trap bacteria if not cared for properly, though it is also considered antimicrobial.

Natural Variation: Because wood is a natural material, slight variations in colour, grain, or texture are normal and part of the unique, handmade charm.

By following these steps, wooden earrings can last a long time.
